Flood damage is a serious concern that can have long-lasting effects on your property and health. At DryX, we understand the urgency of restoring your property to a safe and healthy state. If you experience flood damage, there are immediate actions you can take to help minimize the damage. Our experts recommend closing the water main or shutting off the water source, removing electrical devices in contact with the wet carpet, and putting aluminum foil under furniture legs or feet. It is also important to remove any items that can stain wet carpet. By taking these steps, you can help to prevent further damage and protect your property from harm.
DryX has the expertise and equipment to quickly restore your property back to pre-water damage condition. We use a scientific approach to water removal and water cleanup that emphasizes monitoring and documenting the drying process from beginning to end.
Every water damage event is a little different, and requires a unique solution, but the general process stays the same.
Water losses fall into three categories: clean water, grey water, and black water. Once these categories are determined, it is easier to introduce the proper drying techniques and determine what items can and cannot be restored.
This water originates from a source that does not pose substantial harm to humans, such as broken water supply lines or sink overflows with no contaminants. If left untreated for 72 hours, Category 1 water becomes Category 2 water.
Grey water contains a significant level of contamination and carries micro-organisms and nutrients for micro-organisms. Sources may include discharge or overflows from dishwashers, washing machines or toilet bowls, sump-pump failures, seepage due to hydrostatic pressure, and broken aquariums. Grey water may contain chemicals, bio-contaminants and other forms of contamination, including physical hazards. Carpet pads affected with Category 2 water must be removed and disposed of properly.
Category 3 water includes sewage and other contaminated water sources that enter or affect the indoor environment. Sources could range from toilet back-flows that originate beyond the toilet trap to all forms of flooding from sea water, ground surface water, and rising water from rivers and streams. These types of water carry silt and organic matter into structures and create black water conditions. Whenever a sewage back-flow occurs, the health of anyone in the vicinity should be the primary concern.
